The El Paso Obstacle Course Weekend Event That’s Changing

So we had an idea – why was the obstacle course that we do here in El Paso as a weekend event NOT getting any bigger. I mean, we think it’s great but we are cursed because we can only see things from our point of view (and that usually isn’t good.) To change that we asked people who had come to the event in years passed (2014, 2015 & 2016) and asked them, “What works and what sucks?” The answers were

eye opening to say the least but it gave us direction of WHAT to do so we can IMPROVE. Here’s a list of the 5 questions we asked, what the people answered and how we are cha-cha-changing…

QUESTION #1
how organized was this el paso weekend event question 1

as you can see, we didn’t do too bad over the years, but there’s room for improvement. Thankfully we did our job and rand it reasonably well. The next couple of questions showed us where the problems were…”Houston, we have a problem”

QUESTION #2

how would you rate this el paso weekend event obstacle course question 2

OK, so admittedly this doesn’t look too bad but when we see that about 8% say the course was POOR and about 30% say it was only FAIR we know that we need to make it better. Look, El Paso needs great events and it needs things to do in the Sun City and those things shouldn’t be some lame-ass course. People work hard and they need something that brings them up and it looks like 38% of people said it was just OK or NOT SO GREAT…

QUESTION #3

Would you recommend this el paso weekend event obstacle course question 3.PNG

OUCH! This one stung a little (actually a lot when you break it down). Basically what this says is, “Yeah, the course was run pretty well and yeah the course is OK but I’m not going to go out of my way and RECOMMEND this El Paso event to my friends or colleagues.” So now we know there’s a problem and the next 2 questions are going to reveal

1] What that problem is.
and
2] What we need to do to fix it.

QUESTION #4

What was wrong with this el paso weekend event obstacle course question 4.PNG

OK, now we’re getting somewhere. This is GOLD! So the first thing we noticed is that people complained A LOT about those stickers when they were doing the crawling event. That means BOOM! No More crawling events because those goddamn stickers will blow right into the course no matter how much we sweep in between waves of people coming in… so that settles that issue.

Another thing was that the obstacle course was TOO SHORT or the obstacle course was TOO LONG. Here’s how we’re going to fix that – We are offering $100.00 to the fastest time and the person that finished the fastest was around 10 minutes (not bad when you consider the Spartan Race on NBC has ELITE atheletes finishing some serious stuff in about 18 minutes).

Now as we know some of us are simply fat and out of shape (I prefer to call myself under-tall for my weight, but my friends call me “Gordo” so whatever). For those of us who don’t have 8 pack abs and don’t have time to workout all the time because we’re just too busy, we are going to just have people like us run the obstacle course ONE TIME AROUND. Also, instead of doing the harder obstacles we are going to get the option of just doing 10 jumping jacks and then bypassing those pain in the ass obstacles (I’m looking at you steel pipe climb and swing…)

El Paso event insandity obstacle course race

For those of you that are in shape (someday, I’ll be there with you wearing yoga pants instead of a poncho), you beautiful people will have to go around the obstacle course TWICE and you’ll have to complete ALL of the obstacles if you want to be eligible for the $100.00 prize.

By doing this we get the best of both worlds – People like me who aren’t in pristine, perfect shape can go through the event with my friends and have a good time and the world class athletes can challenge themselves and push for glory (and maybe some dinero)

Also, since we took away the crawling obstacle, we want to add another MUD obstacle. Everyone seems to love mud and who can blame them? We work hard all week trying to keep the salsa off our clothes so it’s refreshing to just let it all hang out and get a little dirty like our kids get to do all the time!

And now we move on to the final question and this one gave us the BIGGEST insight of how to make this El Paso event THE thing to do for a Sun City weekend…

QUESTION #5

What could we do to improve this el paso weekend event obstacle course called InSANDity

This is what we like to see…Problems followed by solutions. We didn’t collect names but for all of you that did fill out this survey, Thank you and Muchas Gracias. The list was to many to show but it’s where we got all these ideas of to run the course 2x, the jumping jacks, removing the crawling obstacle because of stickers, adding a water trough filled with ice cold water and to bring in some more vendors… (Big O’s Jerky Clamatos? Sno-Cones? Bud Lights?). We also like the idea of giving away prizes for the best costume, BUT since everyone does that we want to give away prizes for the best WIG

costume for the insandity obstacle course in el paso event for the thing to do on the weekend

Breathtakingly Bad…

So that’s what’s happening and the direction we are going, if you want to add anything, take the Survey titled, “Make InSANDity Great Again” by CLICKING HERE . If Registration is open just click on the EVENT tab or ICON in the top left corner and sign up. We’ll see you out there!

-=Gordo

P.S. We have 2 options when you get to the InSANDity on race day. You can run a single loop (EASY LEVEL - Run the course ONE time and you can skip ANY obstacle you want) or you can run the Double Loop (HARD LEVEL - Run the course TWICE and you CAN NOT skip any obstacles if you want to win the $100.00 prize for fastest time).

If you're not sure if you have the ability to do the double or even the single looper, then don't worry. You can find out which one you would be your best option by taking our "Single vs. Double Looper" Quiz below==>

Gordo!! Thank you for speaking the truth about us “big boned” people. I’ll do This event if I can skip some of the obstacles and just do the jumping jacks. I’ll be there.
